“The Shoe Lady”

They call her “the shoe lady” because I Paid It Forward’s founder and president, Keri-Lyn Jakubs, delivers new shoes to children while they are in school. The sizes brought are determined by the children who are nominated and receive an I Paid It Forward “gift of kindness” card. However, Keri-Lyn knows that not all size requests received are the correct-fitting sizes. So she and her crew, bring many more shoes than are necessary.

“What I’ve learned,” Jakubs says, “is that most of the shoe size requests we receive are not really the size the child actually wears at all.”

It’s a guessing game that sometimes doesn’t work. The other day, a student was nominated to receive a pair of shoes, however when she got there, none were the right fit. Instead of waiting for donations, Jakubs purchases a new pair of shoes so that child can have the proper fit and not be disappointed due to I Paid It Forward’s limited size selection.

“One of the needs we have right now,” she shares, “is a variety of sizes from a variety of shoe manufacturers. We receive generous donations from manufacturers, but these donations don’t cover the size request of every child who receives a “gift of kindness” nomination. We are in serious need of children’s size shoes. For instance, right now we have requests for boys and girls children’s sizes 2 and 6 and we currently have none.”

Jakubs is asking for gifts of shoes and cash donations to cover these missing size shoe requests. If you would like to help, email Keri-Lyn Jakubs at kerilyn@ipaiditforward.org.
